I'm late, but on the plus side, I'm no longer living in an Edgar Allan Poe story and have found the source of the noise. There was a smoke detector that needed new batteries. Fave RL family reunion moment from today was when everyone dropped everything to watch the chariot race from Ben Hur in remastered colour. The cat hit the remote and there Ben Hur was on the TV, so of course we watched Ben Hur. It looked seriously amazing. the dubbing was shite, but as the chariot is entirely wordless *shrugs*.
